Does your roleplaying need a little medicine (a little extra spurt) to make it super good? Then come on in to the Roleplaying Clinic for some information on how to make it more reply-able for all those roleplaying with you.
Arysia is a literate roleplay. While we do not have any strict posting requirements, one-liners are generally considered to be unacceptable whle roleplaying since it is fairly impossible to reply to a one liner. To add stuff to your roleplaying, there are somethings you can keep in mind that will help a fellow roleplayer more than some extra adjectives or a random flashback that isn't even told to the other roleplayer, making it completely impossible to reply to.
- The weather: Is it cold, snowing? Warm? Raining? How does your character like this weather? Are they playing in the snow or shivering? Are they sweating or running around? Are they sneezing? (how uncommon small illnesses are in roleplaying!)
- The time of the day: Is it morning, afternoon, evening, night? How is the lighting, how much can your character see, and how much of their information comes from other senses?
- Speaking of senses: Don't just describe sight, describe smells, sounds and feelings...as well as tastes, if in an appropriate place. If you describe an unusual sound or smell or even sight, make sure you give some reason for it. Or at least pretend to find one.
- What are they doing: What is your character doing? Walking, fidgeting, playing with their hair or sitting with their back absolutely straight - remember how you sit tells a whole load about your character.
- Appearance: How do they look? More importantly..how are they looking? Dishevelled, prim and proper, eyes downcast or flashing up, like they cried recently, happy or sad, what are they wearing (remember, this is a medieval site, and people do not wear 't-shirts' and jeans) and how they react to things. If a bee comes nearby, do they laugh or get frustrated?
- Reason for the person to be in the place where you are roleplaying: There can be something as simple as "They felt like exploring" but you can mention it.
Whew...that's a lot of things and can add a lot of flavour to your post. In fact, I think I should be using a lot of it too! Now, if you need help with your roleplaying, post a sample roleplay below, and then I (me or some other good roleplayer) will show you ways to correct it. Anyone wishing to give suggestions is welcome to do so.
